Loss Due to the Death of a Loved One
Bereavement Support Groups for Ages 5-8 and Ages 9-13
Separate Parent Support Groups offered
Hallmark Health Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice, Inc. provides bereavement support to children ages 5 to 13 who have lost a loved one. Kids and Grief Support Groups are designed to meet the needs of the two different age groups with a support group for children ages 5-8 and a group for children ages 9-13. Trained bereavement counselors and volunteers facilitate these groups. There is also a separate parent support group offered at the same time.
The goals of the Kids and Grief Support Group include:
- To assist children in coping with grief and loss.
- To normalize feelings of loss and grief.
- For the child to both be supported and to give support with peers who have also experienced the death of a loved one.
Some of the activities utilized in these groups include: Sharing Circles Reading stories Journaling Arts and crafts Expressive movement and guided visualization Presence of ‘Sweetie’, small fluffy pet support Snack & Talk
Kids and Grief Support Group (No Summer Sessions) Groups will resume beginning Wednesday Sept. 17, 2008. Ages 5-8 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month 4:00-5:30pm
